What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.
As a DONA certified birth doula, I am trained to connect families with evidence-based resources so they can ask better questions and make informed decisions about their births. I serve as a bridge of communication between women and their providers, and lift them up to help them find their voices and advocate for the very best care.
a doula’s role
The process of pregnancy and childbirth is not just about a baby being born, but rather, is about the birth of a family unit. Scientific trials studying doula care have demonstrated improved physical and emotional outcomes for not just mother and baby, but it has been proven that doulas have a positive impact on the well being of the entire family. My role as your doula is not to tell you how to birth, it’s to support you during your birth; whatever you want that to look like. When working with families, it is my hope that I am able to:
Educate parents about their options in pregnancy, birth and beyond.
Help them choose a health care provider that wants to support and work with them during their pregnancy and birthing time.
Help them practice self-advocacy so they are able to practice autonomy within the health care system and so that they feel empowered by the birthing process, creating positive memories regarding birth.
Help parents create a healthy framework for their child and family’s physical and emotional development.
choosing a doula
Being your doula would be an honor. Birth is such an intimate experience and you really have to have the right person to support your family through this process. I encourage all my clients to interview several doulas before choosing so they are sure of their decision. If you need a referral, please let me know and I will be happy to give you the names of several colleagues I can recommend!

The Thompson Method of Breastfeeding
Preparation for labor and birth is important, but so is preparing for breastfeeding. Dr. Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 45 years experience, was awarded a PhD for her research into why so many women were being discharged from the hospital with painful nipple trauma and other complications. From her research, The Thompson Method of Breastfeeding was born. This method helps expectant mothers prepare for their breastfeeding journey starting with the idea of “The 3 Golden Hours.”
If you are pregnant now and want to plan for your breastfeeding journey, or if you are having difficulties with breastfeeding and are looking for assistance, please call the office to set up a consultation.
